Mail Games: Documentation

Spoons

This first mail game was meant to be absurd and involve both the actual practice of getting mail and the people in the physical household. I personally had a preferred spoon which has been gone from my home for a while, so I thought spoons would be a good instrument to both fulfill my dream of reconnection with my favorite kermit the frog spoon as well as bring in a fun absurdity to family/roommate interactions. The game entails measuring the distance in footsteps from your mail-receiving place to your home entrance and using that number to playfully tap a member of the household until they get annoyed or question you. In my household, which is used to random and strange occurrences, this resulted in many laughs and delightful spoon taps.

The Box Game

Since it was near the end of the quarter when I made this, I liked the idea of packing things away as if to go somewhere or close a chapter. I had those little boxes from Function of Beauty shampoo/conditioner modifiers and they were just perfect for painting and mailing as a makeshift memory or storage box. I like to store things in jars, be it for organization or to have a place for accessible memories when I'm feeling down or nostalgic, so I thought this was a good spin on that to allow for others to partake in that too. It is a rule within the game to find another makeshift box of your own to pass it on to someone else, which I think is a nice touch to know that the box itself contains both a meaning and history from the person before you and from your personal connection with said person.
